Introduction

Welcome to my blog, an exploration of fashion history and the evolution of various fashion houses. I will be tracking and analyzing the work of different fashion houses throughout history, from their founding to the present. The multi-faceted industry of fashion can be viewed as many different things: at its core a form of necessity, a business, and among others, a form of modern art. Thus, I will be examining fashion through the vision of the artists, or in other words the designers and artistic directors. By focusing on the turnover of artistic directors in particular fashion houses, I can investigate and write about how the influence of each artistic director changed the fashion house. I will examine those changes in the collections that are put out every season, and even examine the clothes in person on visits to flagship stores. During this process, I will get to know and understand the work of some of the most legendary figures in the history of fashion. This is a journey going from historical figures like Hubert de Givenchy and Cristobal Balenciaga to the designers currently at the helm of these powerhouses such as Riccardo Tisci, Karl Lagerfeld and even the relatively newly anointed Alexander Wang. Each of them brought something new to the table, combining the DNA of their respective fashion houses with their own artistic vision. Their influences cannot be underestimated, and trickle down to every little corner of the fashion industry.
